FORT BRAGG — In a battle for first place atop the North Central League I North softball standings, the Fort Bragg Timberwolves held off the Kelseyville Knights 7-5 on a windy and cold Thursday afternoon in Fort Bragg.

Fort Bragg improved to 3-0 in the North standings as Kelseyville dropped to 3-1 and 4-11 overall.

“This one hurt,” Kelseyville coach Greg Giusti said. “I wanted this and so did the kids. We played hard and we played well.”

Losing pitcher Jillian Allen took a line drive off her knee in the bottom of the first but refused to leave the game. She ended up going the distance, striking out three and walking one.

Fort Bragg scored three times in the sixth to open up a 7-3 lead. Kelseyville scored twice in the top of the seventh and was threatening for more when the game ended.

Ashley Mueller went 2-for-4 with a double and Skyler Olsen also had two hits for the Knights. Bitsy Rowe drove in three runs.
