SONOMA — Kelseyville had one more hit than Sonoma on Wednesday in a non-league softball game at Sonoma, but that”s pretty much where the good news ends for the Knights, 10-1 losers to the Dragons.
Playing their third game in as many days, the Knights (5-14) and coach Greg Giusti fielded a lineup dominated by underclassmen.
“I played all the rookies,” Giusti said. “They played OK, but we still have a little bit of trouble in the outfield.”
After losing pitcher Sabrina Lyon shut down the Dragons in the first two innings, the Knights moved in front 1-0 on Sarah Johnson”s one-out RBI single in the top of the third. Ashley Mueller (2-for-2) singled with one out and moved up to second on a single by Skyler Olsen (3-for-4). After a double steal, Johnson (2-for-4) blooped a single to score Mueller.
“We put the ball in play quite a bit but we left a lot of people on base,” Giusti said of the Knights, who banged out 11 hits and struck out only two times.
Sonoma pushed ahead to stay with a four-run rally in the bottom of the third. The Dragons added a run in the fourth, three more in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Lyon struck out three and walked four in going the distance for Kelseyville.
The Knights resume their North Central League I North schedule Friday at home against Middletown at 4 p.m.
