LAKE COUNTY — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and its traffic safety partners kick off May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month to remind motorists and motorcyclists that safety on the roadway is a shared responsibility of all drivers.
There are now more than one million licensed riders in the state. While statistics show motorcycle fatalities increased during the 10 years ending in 2008, the preliminary numbers for 2009 indicate a decline in fatalities, a trend traffic safety leaders hope to see continue.
