CLEARLAKE — The body of what appears to be a 42-year-old man was recovered from the waters of Clear Lake early Thursday morning. Official cause of death is pending an autopsy; however, authorities suspect suicide.

“It appears to be a suicide but we won”t know the actual cause of death until an autopsy is complete,” Clearlake Police Sgt. Tim Celli said.

The identity of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.

According to Sgt. Celli, officer response was requested around 3:52 a.m. after friends of the victim woke to find him missing. Sgt. Celli said the victim was last seen by friends at approximately 2 a.m. when he had said he was going for a walk.

Sgt. Celli said a piece of paper was found that appeared to be a note indicating that the victim possibly intended to take his own life.

Sgt. Celli said that units responded to the Starview Apartments on the 13900 block of Lakeshore Drive and where the victim”s unclothed body was discovered by officers approximately 70 feet from the shore.

Lake County Fire Protection District and the Lake County Sheriff Marine Patrol assisted in the recovery of the body.

Sgt. Celli said a death investigation pending autopsy is being conducted by Officer Reghan Stuller.
