LOWER LAKE — Anderson Marsh Interpretive Association (AMIA), the cooperating association for Anderson Marsh State Historic Park, is planning a day of family fun. An old fashioned “Day in the Park” will take place on May 22 at Anderson Marsh, located off Highway 53 between Clearlake and Lower Lake.

The event will showcase the talents and wares of local students. Tours of the marsh area and the ranch house will be offered and live music will fill the day. The Children”s Museum of Art and Science will coordinate old fashioned games for the kids, such as sack and wheel barrow races, as well.

“The public is invited to come out and celebrate education by support local classrooms and schools,” Frank McAtee, event coordinator said. “Teachers and students will be selling crafts, products and food to earn money for field trips and special events. You will experience all levels and grades highlighting their individual talents, from kindergarten to 12th grade.”

The Career Pathways program will be raffling off prizing showcasing their talent throughout the day. Raffle drawings will be held at noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets are priced at $1 apiece or six tickets for $5. You must be present to win.

The following prizes will be up for grabs:

? $100 gift certificate for Mendo Mill provided by Northcoast Builder”s Exchange, which is a member of the Career Pathways Advisory Board.

? A duplex dog house handmade by students in the Construction Career Pathway. The dog house accommodates two dogs in their individual private areas.

? A student-made half-inch plate steel yard art planter box with handcrafted steel decorative flowers to spruce up your house or garden.

? Four fabulous gourmet lunches prepared by Level III Culinary students under the supervision of Culinary Teacher Hazel Woehle.

? An oil and filter change, safety check and car wash provided by the Career Pathways Automotive program.

“All proceeds from services, crafts and food sales will directly benefit the individual classrooms,” McAtee said. “AMIA is proud to support outdoor education at Anderson Marsh State Historic Park and we are excited to participate with schools in this wonderful hometown event. Anderson Marsh is the ideal outdoor educational classroom and it is also a great place for community to come together and spend a beautiful day at the park.”

No pets are allowed and alcohol is also prohibited. Guests are advised to bring their own lawn chair or blanket. Seating is not provided. The culinary program will have drinks and food available at reasonable prices. Other class groups will have a variety of snacks, sodas, lemonade and ice tea at minimal costs.

Admission is $2 for adults 18 and older. Those younger than 18 and those older than 65 will be admitted for free.
