LAKEPORT — In order to protect the public, a judge denied bail Friday in an attempted murder case against a Lakeport man.
Judge Richard Martin said Daniel Scott Beaty, 35, allegedly shot a Lucerne man multiple times, has a lengthy rap sheet, could serve life in prison and performed poorly on parole in the past. For those reasons, Martin ruled to keep Beaty on a no-bail hold, he said.
“The court feels he poses a danger to the public,” Martin said.
Beaty pleaded not guilty May 7 to charges of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, threats to commit a crime resulting in death and obstructing or resisting a public officer.
Beaty allegedly shot Glenn Jenkins, 35, of Willits multiple times May 3 at a home in Lucerne.
The Sheriff”s Major Crimes Unit investigation revealed that Beaty, James John McClean, 23, of Lakeport, and Christopher Don Secord, 21, of Lakeport allegedly went to the Third Avenue home in Lucerne early May 3 looking for Jenkins, Capt. Jim Bauman of the Lake County Sheriff”s Office said. Both Beaty and Secord were allegedly armed with handguns. After Jenkins had been shot, Secord reportedly fled the area on foot and ditched his gun several blocks away before leaving the area. Beaty and McClean reportedly drove straight to the home of Alan Wayne Monroe, 57, in Lucerne after the shooting, ditched the gun Beaty had in a nearby creek, and talked Monroe into driving them out of the area to avoid capture.?
Detectives also arrested McClean, Secord and Monroe on May 5, but the District Attorney”s Office has yet to make a charging decision in their cases.
Beaty will return to court 9 a.m. Friday for setting and to determine whether his public defender, Doug Rhoades, has a conflict in the case.
