SANTA ROSA — Brothers John Glazier and Seth Glazier of Clear Lake High School are headed to the North Coast Section Meet of Champions after turning in strong performances Saturday during the NCS Class A Meet at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa.

The Meet of Champions is the qualifier for the CIF State Championships the weekend of June 4-5.

Also earning a trip to the Meet of Champions, which opens Friday and concludes Saturday at Edwards Stadium on the U.C. Berkeley campus, were Kelseyville”s Kendra Schwegerl in the triple jump and the Middetown 4×100 girls” relay team of Brittany Cash, Kelly Wilkinson, Amber Ramponi and Aly Mino.

Only the top three finishers in each event as well as the top three relay teams move on to the Meet of Champions.

Boys

John Glazier, a sophomore, qualified for the MOC in two events. He won the long jump by clearing 22 feet, 2 inches, a Clear Lake and Lake County record, and he added a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.15 seconds. Less than a second behind him in third place was brother Seth, a senior, in 11.24.

“It looked tighter than what the numbers indicate,” Clear Lake coach Lars Ewing said. “I thought it was closer.”

Seth Glazier missed the Coastal Mountain Conference Championships a week earlier with a hamstring pull but received a medical hardship into the Class A meet, according to Ewing.

“They”re always pretty close even if they have different running styles,” Ewing said of Seth”s and John”s 100 times.

Jordan Thomas of Branson School of Ross won the 100 in 11.04.

In the long jump, John Glazier”s winning leap of 22-2 broke the Clear Lake record of 22-1 set in 1995 by none other than Ewing, who made it to the state championships that year.

“I was an 18-year-old senior when I did that (clear 22-1) and he”s just a 15-year-old sophomore, which is pretty amazing,” Ewing said. “I think I had more satisfaction in John breaking my record than he did. We knew he had it in him. He”s been making great progress over his last two or three meets.”

While the competition at the Meet of Champions will be even tougher, Ewing said he likes the chances of both Glazier brothers.

“They both have a chance, I really believe that,” Ewing said. “I think it”s great that we have two moving on.”

A top-four finish at the MOC is required to move on to the state finals while the top six medal.

Ewing is hoping the weather improves for the MOC after a touch-and-go day with the rain in Santa Rosa.

“There was a downpour right when they were getting into the blocks (for the 100 final),” Ewing said. “It wasn”t really track weather.”

Clear Lake took 10 athletes ? five boys and five girls ? to the Class A meet. The next-best finish by a Cardinal belonged to Brian Bradley, who finished fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.97) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (43.84).

Other top finishes by Lake County athletes went to Kelseyville”s Morgan Nelson, fifth in the discus (126-7 1/2); Middletown”s Alejanadro Maldonado, fifth in the 3,200 run (10 minutes, 36.77 seconds); Middletown”s Theo Drew, fifth in the triple jump (39-10 1/4); and Middletown”s Myles Moffat, sixth in the triple jump (39-9 1/2);

Girls

Kelseyville”s Schw-egerl cleared 32-1 1/2 in the triple jump to lock up second place, a full seven inches better than third-place finisher Jordan Cook of University High School of San Francisco. Way out in front was winner Sabrine Haroun of Lick-Wilmerding (San Francisco) at 34-3 1/2.

Middletown”s 4×100 relay team of Cash, Wilkinson, Ramponi and Mino finished in 45.01 seconds, second only to Justin-Siena”s 44.92.

The Middletown 4×400 team of Cash, Wilkinson, Amber Hart and Rose Lynch came in fourth in 4:28.29. University, College Prep (Oakland) and Lick-Wilmerding nailed down the top three spots.

Hart of Middletown added a fifth-place finish in the 300 hurdles (50.96). Also for Middletown, Cheyenne Snow finished eighth in the shotput (28-9).
