I”ve been missing my yellow lab for a month now. You”ve probably seen my pink flyers all over Lake County. His name is Spenser. I never thought I would lose him and I never thought about needing Animal Care and Control on my side.

You see, I”ve been making daily trips to Animal Control in hopes that somebody will turn my missing dog in. I”m not a negligent dog mom; quite the contrary. Spenser had a wonderful home, his own bed and other dog companions for company. He was more than loved; he was a member of my family. He had a green collar on when I lost him, however, I never thought about needing a name tag or a dog license on it. I regretfully do now.

Animal Control has been a tremendous support to me in every way. They show me compassion every time I walk in the door. They have never looked at me scornfully for losing my dog. Instead, they have offered to support me in any way they can in finding him.

If you have never experienced this side of Animal Care and Control, then I offer you my experience for the record. They are not just the “dog police” to be looked at as the enemy of Lake County. They have one of the hardest jobs I can think of; taking in animals that have been surrendered, neglected and lost. They care for your animals.

I make one plea to you dog moms. Make sure your dog has a collar on with a name, address and telephone number. License them with Animal Care and Control, so if you lose your pet, they will make every effort to return your dog. This practice also assures the person who finds your pet, that it really has a home. My dog Spenser has a home. I hope he comes back to me soon.
