LAKEPORT — In an effort to preserve wetlands, the Lake County Board of Supervisors offered a resolution Tuesday in support of the Big Valley Wetlands Project.
The Lake County Land Trust is working with lakeshore property owners from the south of Lakeport to the Clear Lake State Park to protect shoreline wetlands for the project.
“I think it”s a great project,” Chairman Anthony Farrington said. “Wetlands and tules are very important.”
The board addressed a number of issues during its meeting that started 9 a.m. Tuesday in the County Courthouse in Lakeport.
Board members agreed to a resolution between Animal Care and Control and two dog owners to issue vicious animal abatement orders rather than issue an order to put down one of the dogs.
The board unanimously approved an issuance of a request for qualifications for Holiday Harbor resort-based mixed-use development.
Board members agreed to postpone an item for a week on changing the yearly burn ban start date during years with heavy rainfall and temporarily suspending this year”s burn ban. Supervisor Rob Brown will bring the issue back before the board 9:15 a.m. Tuesday so that a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection representative and Doug Gearhart of the county”s Air Quality Management District can be present.
The board awarded a bid to River Marine Sales for $75,584 to buy a 24-foot patrol and rescue boat for the Sheriff”s Marine Patrol. The California Department of Boating and Waterways awarded a grant to the Sheriff”s Department for the boat, so there will be no cost to the county. Public Works director Brent Siemer gave the board a report on the National Association of County Engineers Annual Conference he attended, which, among many things, encouraged representatives such as the supervisors to call their legislatures and lobby aggressively to get funding.
Board members approved the release of $400,000 for the Rim Rock Ranch Subdivision on Hartmann Road in Middletown. The board took no action on the related item to allow authorization for the Public Works director to approve future requests for partial release of improvement security for Rim Rock Ranch Subdivision, rather board members asked to have the requests brought to them in a timely manner.
