CLEARLAKE OAKS — A woman was shot to death in Clearlake Oaks early Tuesday morning. Sheriff”s deputies responded around 6:20 a.m. to Walnut Way after a man called sheriff”s dispatch and reported that he had shot his wife.

According to Sheriff Captain Jim Bauman, the man was identified only as Eddie Gillespie.

“As deputies were still responding, dispatch kept Gillespie on the phone and they were told he had shot his wife multiple times in the home and was prepared to surrender to deputies,” Captain Bauman said. “Dispatch instructed Gillespie to disarm himself and exit the home as deputies arrived at the scene and he was taken into custody without incident.”

Captain Bauman said a large-caliber handgun was recovered from the scene.

“While securing the scene, deputies located the body of a woman inside the home who had apparently sustained multiple gunshot wounds,” Captain Bauman said. “Medics from the Northshore Fire Protection District responded from a staging area and pronounced the woman deceased.”

The Sheriff”s Major Crimes Unit was called in to assume the investigation and process the crime scene. Captain Bauman said that Gillespie was removed from the scene and taken to another location for questioning.

The apparent homicide is pending further investigation and the identity of the victim had not been released as of press time Tuesday.
