CLEARLAKE OAKS — The victim of an early morning shooting in Clearlake Oaks Tuesday has been identified by the Lake County Sheriff”s Department as 52-year-old Tracey Gillespie. She was apparently shot to death by her husband Eddie Lee Gillespie, 50, of Clearlake.
According to Sheriff”s Captain Jim Bauman, Eddie Gillespie phoned dispatch and reported had just shot his wife inside her home on Walnut Way in Clearlake Oaks. He was arrested at the scene without incident and remains in custody at the Lake County Jail on a murder charge with no bail.
Captain Bauman said that further investigation into the incident revealed that the couple had been married since February of this year and that their relationship was apparently estranged. He said the two maintained separate homes, Tracey”s in Clearlake Oaks and Eddie”s in Clearlake. According to Captain Bauman, a recent incident between Tracey Gillespie and her husband”s son Kyle Gillespie, 27, may have contributed to the motive in Tuesday”s shooting.
“Apparently on Sunday, May 23rd, an argument between Kyle Gillespie and Tracey Gillespie at Eddie Gillespie”s home resulted in Kyle”s arrest for battery by the Clearlake Police Department,” Captain Bauman said. “Eddie and Tracey Gillespie had reportedly been arguing about Kyle Gillespie”s arrest on and off since Sunday”s incident and when Eddie Gillespie called dispatch Tuesday morning to report the shooting, he also stated Tracey had ?put his son in jail.””
Captain Bauman said that Kyle Gillespie was released on his own recognizance by the courts the same day his father was booked for murder.
An autopsy was performed on Tracey Gillespie on Thursday morning at the Napa County Coroner”s Office. The exact cause of death is pending the findings of that autopsy, Captain Bauman said.
