LAKE COUNTY — With a campaign slogan to “restore confidence” in the District Attorney”s Office, candidate Don Anderson doesn”t have the trust of two Lake County home improvement stores.
Anderson originally owed Piedmont Lumber $27,000 for home improvement materials bought in 2006 and 2007, for which Piedmont Lumber brought a court case and has yet to be paid in full, according to the company”s credit manager.
His girlfriend, Jennifer McGee, also bought supplies for the house on Adobe Creek Road in Kelseyville from Kelseyville Lumber and didn”t pay, general manager of the store, Mark Borghesani said. “At the end of the day we have two local businesses that are stuck and haven”t been paid.”
McGee owes the lumber store $12,700, not including attorney”s fees, Borghesani said.
Anderson owes Piedmont Lumber a settlement amount of $10,000 that was due in December 2008, but the company credit manager said the settlement is voided because it”s past due. The company will instead seek full repayment of at least $15,002.
Anderson said he”s not responsible for McGee”s debt on her house and he had planned to pay the remaining $10,000.
“To me this is nothing but dirty politics,” Anderson said.
Anderson said he thinks the situation is ridiculous and that he”s going to run a clean campaign.
“I think it”s really dirty,” he said. “They shouldn”t be coming after my family members and that”s what they”re doing. They”re trying to come after my family.”
Anderson represented McGee in Kelseyville Lumber”s case against her.
“To me he used his leverage, his position, his specialization to get out of a bill,” Borghesani said. “I don”t think that”s right.”
Borghesani said he knows District Attorney Jon Hopkins and challenger Doug Rhoades and has never had a problem with them.
“Picking between him, Doug or Jon, I certainly wouldn”t pick him,” Borghesani said.
