I know of no one who thinks illegal immigration is a good thing. Moreover, the problem may be reduced or mitigated, it is not likely to be stopped ? ever. Even if it could be, the cost would be prohibitive and our country simply does not have the resources when so many other needs are known.
Acting largely out of frustration with federal non-action, Arizona has sought to solve its own problem. One may like, or not like the measure, but one has to honor the fact that action has been taken. I feel that Arizona should be given the time and opportunity to see if its solution works, or at least to what the result of the effort turns out to be.
I feel that our country has never had such a unique opportunity to observe and evaluate an effort without involvement. Let Arizona give it a shot, and let”s learn from it. Perhaps when the Federal government gets around to taking action they will have a lot more knowledge of the problem and, perhaps, some idea of what works and what doesn”t.
