SACRAMENTO — Jonathan Carlson”s bid to reach the U.S. Open ended at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento on Monday during the 36-hole sectional qualifying phase.

Carlson, the former Kelseyville High star and an active member on the Lake County Amateur Golf Circuit, carded rounds of 77 and 81 to finish at 16-over-par 158. A field of 87 competed for four available berths into the 110th U.S. Open, which tees off a week from Thursday at Pebble Beach.

Erick Justesen of Sacramento was the medalist with rounds of 65 and 68 for a 9-under-par 133 total. Tied for second were Joseph Bramlett and Kenny Yun-Gi Kim at 6-under-par 136. Four players tied for the final U.S. Open berth at 5-under-par 137 and Andrew Putnam of University Place, Washington, won out.

Carlson tied for 80th place.
