When will we ever learn to act before we have to react? Consider a few of the recent catastrophes in our country; the oil spill in the Gulf; the coal miner deaths in the South; Arizona”s controversial reaction to the immigration problem; the financial debacles of Wall Street and others of that ilk; the near collapse of the American auto industry and allied businesses, resulting in record-setting unemployment, bankruptcies and other hardships.

There were many warning signs and measures that could have been taken in past years to avoid or lessen each of these problems. They should have been tackled nationally, not one by one as they affected a particular area. Look at the cost in lives, security and stability that comes from reacting when the problem is almost insurmountable, instead of acting it while it is manageable. Acting before a problem accelerates into a disaster will always have a cheaper price tag than reacting during a catastrophe.
