UPDATED:

After being scheduled, then canceled by edict of the Clearlake City Council, the volunteer “redevelopment” project on the vacant city-owned building at the corner of Lakeshore and Olympic took place June 5 after all.

On Tuesday, June 1, Public Works Director Doug Herron delivered a letter to me specifically authorizing this major cosmetic face-lift, with the intended goal of transforming this structurally sound but neglected structure from an eyesore into an income-producing asset.

Paint, caulk, tape and other materials were all donated by local businesses, and tools were made available. Workers were asked to wear sturdy work clothes, shoes and gloves, and to bring their own tools (rakes, shovels, hammers, scrapers, paint brushes, etc) if they have them. Free cold water and barbecue rib lunch (also donated) was provided to all participants, who gathered at the site at 8 a.m. on June 5.

We want to work together to make the City of Clearlake the great place it can and should be.
