LAKEPORT — A defense attorney said Friday he received discovery in an attempted murder case against a Lakeport man and asked to put over the preliminary hearing.
Daniel Beaty, 35, will return to court July 2 for a pre-preliminary hearing and Aug. 6 for his preliminary hearing.
Beaty allegedly shot Glenn Jenkins, 35, of Willits multiple times May 3 at a home in Lucerne.
Beaty is charged with attempted murder, assault with a firearm, burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, threats to commit a crime resulting in death and obstructing or resisting a public officer.
The Sheriff”s Major Crimes Unit investigation revealed that Beaty, James McClean, 23, and Christopher Secord, 21, all of Lakeport allegedly went to the home in Lucerne early May 3 looking for Jenkins, Capt. James Bauman of the Lake County Sheriff”s Office said. Both Beaty and Secord were allegedly armed with handguns. After Jenkins had been shot, Secord reportedly fled the area on foot and ditched his gun several blocks away before leaving the area. Beaty and McClean reportedly drove straight to the home of Alan Wayne Monroe, 57, in Lucerne after the shooting, ditched the gun Beaty had in a nearby creek, and talked Monroe into driving them out of the area to avoid capture.?
Detectives also arrested McClean, Secord and Monroe on May 5, but senior deputy district attorney Rich Hinchcliff said in May he hasn”t made a charging decision in their cases.
On May 21, Judge Richard Martin denied Beaty”s request for bail and kept him on a no-bail hold at the Lake County Jail because he said Beaty allegedly shot Jenkins multiple times, has a lengthy rap sheet, could serve life in prison and performed poorly on parole in the past.
