CLEARLAKE — An early morning crash Friday resulted in minor injuries and arrest for driving under the influence. Rashel Leanna Ackworth, 28, of San Francisco was arrested after crashing her 1985 BMW coupe in to a tree on Old Highway 53 in Clearlake.
According to Clearlake Police Lt. Craig Clausen, Ackworth was driving southbound on Old Highway 53 when she allowed her vehicle to leave the roadway where it struck a tree. Lt. Clausen said the crash occurred between 3:45 and 3:58 a.m.
Lt. Clausen said that Ackworth initially left the scene of the crash and then returned. Upon contact, officers observed signs of intoxication and Ackworth was arrested and transported to St. Helena Hospital Clearlake for treatment of minor injuries prior to being booked into Lake County Jail. She was charged with hit and run resulting in death/injury, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs causing bodily injury and for driving on a suspended license.
According to Lt. Clausen, Ackworth”s passenger was also transported to the hospital via Lake County Fire Protection District medic unit for minor injuries sustained in the crash.
