The Joshua Miles Hansen Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Creative Arts has been awarded since 2009 at Clear Lake High. The 2010 recipients are Sarah Thompson and Joshua Blair. Each will receive $1,000 paid in two installments. In 2009, Alissa Iaccino, Brianna Marsh and Katie Falconer were honored.
While attending high school, Josh, the son of Michael and Ashlyn Hansen and Mike and Diana Lunas of Lakeport, was known for his acting ability in such Clear Lake High performances as Brigadoon, Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, The New Medicine Show and Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. He was an award winner at the Lake County Drama Festival and the Lenaea Drama Festival in Sacramento. He also earned a silver medal in literature as a member of the school”s academic decathlon team. Hansen was a class president and a four-year member of the executive student council.
Upon graduating from Clear Lake, Josh attended college and focused on the field of journalism and communications all the while exploring his avid interests in art and music. He gained notoriety for his DJ skills in the Bay Area, wrote poetry and produced music soundtracks to market for film and advertising purposes.
The scholarship honoring Hansen”s memory is offered to a Clear Lake High School graduating senior who has demonstrated talent, passion and strength in the area of creative arts. The recipient of the award is a student who has been accepted to college and plans on pursuing a major focusing on one of the creative arts (writing, communications, theater or music). Recipients are required to provide proof of enrollment for the fall semester in order to receive the first installment of their scholarship award. The second installment is paid after the first semester grading period (or second quarter). Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher to remain eligible.
Donations from family and friends provided the money that made the awarding of the 2009 and 2010 scholarships possible. Funds raised from the Saturday fundraiser will guarantee that the scholarship continues to honor Hansen”s memory well into the future.
Josh has four siblings ?brothers Jared Hansen, 26, and Logan Lunas, 19, and sisters Joni Hansen, 15, and Haleigh Lunas, 21.
Early in his life Josh found passion through music and writing. He loved the written word and had the ability to express himself through his writing and music. While attending Terrace Middle School, Hansen was the first student to write school articles published in the Lake County Record-Bee newspaper. At Clear Lake High, he kept Record-Bee readers informed of high school happenings in a weekly column.
