LUCERNE — A caregiver pulled a Lucerne man out of his burning mobile home Monday night after the man”s cigarette used near an oxygen tank possibly caused the fire, burning his home to the ground.

Northshore Fire responded to the blaze a few minutes after the call, at 11:44 p.m. Monday at the Country Club Mobile Home Park in Lucerne, and found the mobile home engulfed in flames, said Battalion Chief Pat Brown.

“Our main problem is we had exploding oxygen bottles,” Brown said.

Northshore fire crews transported the man to Sutter Lakeside Hospital by ambulance for possible burns and breathing problems, Brown said. An air ambulance then transported the man Tuesday to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Brown said he didn”t have an update on the man”s condition and couldn”t release his name.

The fire department received a first report that the fire was at the back of the trailer, but the blaze escalated fast, destroying the home and an outbuilding, Brown said. The fire damaged mobile homes on each side of the original blaze. Fire crews kept the neighbors in the damaged homes out of the buildings overnight for their safety.

The Northshore Fire Protection District responded with four engines, two medics and one battalion chief. CalFIRE responded with two engines and one battalion chief. The Lake County Sheriff”s Office also arrived on scene with four patrol cars.
