CLEARLAKE — Street sweeping operations are scheduled in the City of Clearlake for Thursday and Friday. Clearlake Public Works Director Doug Herren has arranged for sweeping of Lakeshore and Olympic drives in preparation of the upcoming holiday weekend.

“We are anticipating many guests this weekend and we want our city to look as good as possible for our visitors,” Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lori Peters said. “Basically, we”re cleaning house for our guest that arrive this weekend.”

Peters is asking all business and property owners on Olympic and Lakeshore drives to pitch-in by cleaning up the gutters and the street edges in front of their properties. By doing so, Peters said the street sweeper will be more effective.

“We are asking that business and property owners pick up the debris, leaves and dirt out of the gutters and off the street edges,” Peters said. “If we all help, it will make out town look much better.”

The City of Clearlake expects a large turnout for the 53rd annual Lakeshore Lions Club Redbud Parade and Festival. It is the club”s largest fundraiser of the year and typically draws hundreds to Austin Park for a day of family-friendly activities and events, including a midway carnival, car show and fireworks at dusk.

In addition, the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce will host the 43rd annual International Worm Races. The first race is scheduled for approximately 12:30 p.m. following the parade. Wranglers can bring their own worm or they can rent one from the famed stables of the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce. Winners in four age categories will be vying for cash prizes and trophies.

The chamber is currently seeking volunteers to assist with the Worm Races including stable hands, race judges and helpers and more. For further information call the chamber at 994-3600.
