UPDATED:

This past weekend I attended a convention in Modesto with a group of 180 people from California, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado. I spoke to a few residents of Arizona who live in the Yuma area regarding the closing of their border with Mexico and asked them why?

Their response was enlightening. First off they said it is almost impossible to go fishing on the Colorado River without encountering a group (10 to 20) of illegals who are swimming across the river or get your line snarled in bales of marijuana being floated down the river. One friend said he was tired of seeing dirty diapers, bottles and trash along the banks of the river. One man spoke about how he seriously injured his foot and needed to go to the nearest emergency room for treatment. He checked in and sat in the waiting room with a large group of illegals also waiting to be seen by a physician. My friend waited 17 hours to be checked out by a doctor.

The wait was attributed to the United States and its fair treatment of individuals, regardless of citizenship, who require medical attention. In this case it was pregnant illegals knowing their children could be born here and become citizens. That is one of the main reasons for coming to the United States. The others were injured during the crossing. For those illegals who work in the fields, well, would you turn down a job at $10 an hour? In Yuma, the police department spends the majority of its time just patrolling the border but it”s a losing battle.

So why does California boycott Arizona? I guess it”s because we fear more illegals will enter our state and find jobs paying them $10 an hour, along with the free medical, and take that away from our own citizens. The way I look at it is why are our unemployed citizens not out in the fields working for $10 an hour, which is above minimum wage, and getting the medical coverage? I guess it”s because we would rather collect unemployment or welfare and then sip on our lattes and frappuccinos and gripe about our government.

We (California) need to step up to the plate and go along with Arizona and close our border. We also need to urge New Mexico and Texas to do the same. If you want to enter the United States then you need to do it legally just as we need to do if we go into Mexico. We also need to activate the National Guard and deploy them to our borders to enforce the “No Cross Zone.” The only problem with this is our government doesn”t want to step on someone”s toes and upset Mexico. Oh well, get over it.
