My name is Walt Fraser and I would like to present a challenge to the Record-Bee to print these words. My suggestion is, now that the election for sheriff has come down to two people, the present sheriff and candidate Rivero, how about implementing a one- year probationary period for the winner and after one year the people of Lake County would vote as to whether or not the person voted in gets to stay. I am tired of all the promises and broken promises. I am tired of all the gossip and county corruption, etc. Anyone in office and all candidates can make very good recommendations and promises about the job before the vote, but what about after they are in office?

A regular deputy coming onto any agency has to fulfill a one-year probation, so if Lake County were to start implementing one-year probations on all political positions this would indeed wake up the candidates running for office.

They would know that after they are voted in they still have to work for that nice paycheck. I feel a one-year probationary period should be implemented for all political positions in the state of California because people are sick and tired of promises.

So what do you think? Would you like to have a safety-valve in place where the people voted-in really do have to be seen and work after they are voted in? I would like to see the people of Lake County”s opinion to see what they would like.

As for my professional opinion, Lake County needs a change in the sheriff”s position. Since I have lived in Lake County for 14 years I have never seen the sheriff out in the public to let us know he cares. I am sure he does, but how?

There were a couple of times I went to see him personally and that didn”t take place either. Lake County needs a sheriff who gets out in the county and gets his hands dirty with the force.

We need a sheriff who handles internal incidents, like a deputy who steps out of place, the same as if a civilian would be treated.

So the challenge is there. How many people want to step up to the plate and give their opinion about a one-year probationary period for the sheriff and any other elected official in Lake County?
