LAKEPORT — Pyro Show Producer Matthew Gilfillan of Pyro Spectaculars addressed the Lakeport City Council Tuesday night about this year”s Fourth of July fireworks show and the pending second installment of the Pyro Spectaculars warrant, or bill, worth $8,650.

The council paid the first installment of the warrant, worth $8,650, in May.

Pyro Spectaculars is the Oakland-based company in charge of this year”s Fourth of July fireworks show, and has been in charge of previous Fourth of July fireworks shows for the past twenty years.

“I proposed a settlement for this year”s display and next year”s display.” Gilfillan told the council.

The proposed settlement was a 25 percent discount off the Pyro Spectaculars bill for this year”s Fourth of July fireworks show, and an additional discount toward next year”s Fourth of July fireworks show.

Gilfillan told the City Council the error during the show was caused by an “Implementation of firing system,” and that the operator “Was not prepared.”

The first 10 minutes of the show was shot mechanically, Gilfillan said, and the last seven minutes of the show was shot manually by the operator.

The operator, who was an independent contractor hired by Pyro Spectaculars, did not set up the firing system appropriately, Gilfillan said.

“It wasn”t satisfactory; wasn”t what we expect.” Gilfillan said about the show.

Council Member Suzanne Lyons said the show, “Wasn”t a terrible experience,” and motioned to accept the proposed settlement and pay the second installment of the warrant.

The motion was not seconded and dismissed.

“I think what we should pay for is half a show, ” Mayor Pro Tem Robert Rumfelt said to Gilfillan.

Mayor Pro Tem Rumfelt made a motion to further discuss payment of the second installment of the warrant with Pyro Spectaculars, and to also specify the contract between Pyro Spectaculars and the Lakeport City Council.

The motion was seconded and passed by a 4-1 vote.

Council Member Lyons voted in opposition of the motion.
