The long-standing discussion between generations about the good old days; if things are better now or back then, brought this thought to my mind the other day. A good example that both sides may agree upon is shown in our overall acceptance of a lesser quality of food products that hit the marketplace and are raved by all when first introduced. As time goes by, these products become less and less of the quality product we so enjoyed, yet, just by keeping the same name, sales hold their own.

So many products come to mind, from the original Hostess Cupcakes, Eskimo Pie, pre-chain hamburgers, Mother”s Cookies, Granny Goose Corn Chips, etc. Like our love affair with the cheap goods from China now, manufacturers are more interested in producing less- costly products than holding to the quality for what once were the companies” signature items.

I, for one, wonder to myself if this trade-off and quest for higher profits has been something that has not truly lessened the quality and enjoyment of our daily lives in so many areas and understand those feelings that come to one of my age, feeling sorry for our younger generation who has and will miss so many of the things of yesteryear.
