I have come across several articles in your paper which express some animosity toward Morgan Jack. Upon reading Michael Goetz” letter in the June 2 edition I would first like to point out that Morgan Jack was not convicted of murder. He pled no contest. Therefore, for people to continually use the media to say he got away with murder is libelous and defamation of character. Those comments can be pulled up at any time from the Web for use in civil court.

Furthermore, Goetz also issued a statement complaining the case was pled down to an accidental homicide. This is also false.

The plea bargain in which Morgan Jack pled “no contest” was voluntary manslaughter. Anyone who wants to can access legal research from the Law Library in front of the courthouse in Lakeport to verify that voluntary manslaughter consists of one of three things; upon a sudden quarrel, an imperfect self-defense or in the heat of passion, not accidental homicide.
