LAKEPORT — Locks, security glass, an alarm system and security cameras kept two women and one man from breaking into Lakeport Express early Wednesday morning.
The owner of the market and gas station gave the images of the people throwing a large rock at the glass door to Lakeport police, who are trying to determine the identities of the subjects for charges of attempted burglary, Lt. Brad Rasmussen of Lakeport police said.
“Anything they can do to fortify their business and make it hard to break in ? to keep it well lit, with security cameras and an alarm system, in this case his security door ? keeps people from burglarizing,” Rasmussen said.
After the people threw the rock a few times, about 20 minutes to 1 a.m. Wednesday, the alarm went off and the subjects fled the area before police arrived, Rasmussen said.
Lakeport Express has since replaced the front security glass door.
A number of burglaries have happened during the past week in Lakeport, though police don”t know whether they”re related, Rasmussen said.
At 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, an alarm went off at the MAC room, the multipurpose room, at Clear Lake High School. Police responded and found a window broken by a rock, Rasmussen said. When police returned the next morning, school staff told them an iMac computer was missing.
Rasmussen said they have some possible suspects on the school burglary.
Officers also took a report of residential burglary at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
During the weekend, Lakeport police responded to a series of calls for subjects taking things out of unlocked cars.
“We always stress people should lock their vehicles and shouldn”t leave items in plain view,” Rasmussen said.
Many of the stolen items were small miscellaneous objects, but some were worth more than $400, he said.
