MENDOCINO COUNTY — A vegetation fire charred about 290 acres on North Cow Mountain since it started Sunday and continues to burn through heavy brush on the steep terrain, CAL FIRE stated.

Fire crews are working to contain a five-acre spot and have 45 percent containment as of Monday afternoon, Julie Cooley of CAL FIRE said. The fire hasn”t threatened or damaged any structures.

Firefighters responded to the blaze about 4 p.m. on North Cow Mountain in Mendocino County.

Commanders expect full containment by 6 p.m. today with full control Friday morning, CAL FIRE reported.

Crews responding include CAL FIRE, the Bureau of Land Management, Ukiah Valley, Potter Valley, Redwood Valley and Hopland fire departments with 370 personnel and 10 engines, 16 fire crews, six dozers, two air tankers and three helicopters.

CAL FIRE reported it hasn”t received any complaints of injuries to firefighters or civilians. Crews are still investigating the cause of the fire. Anyone with any information regarding the cause of the fire can call CAL FIRE at 459-7414.
