LAKE COUNTY — A couple of CALFIRE engines patrolled the charred landscape Thursday on North Cow Mountain looking for hot spots after they gained full control of the Cow Mountain Fire.
The blaze burned 293 acres in heavy brush and steep terrain on the mountain since it started about 4 p.m. Sunday, Julie Cooley of CAL FIRE said. The majority of the fire burned in Lake County but fire crews had better access on the Mendocino side. Crews had the fire 100-percent contained by Thursday.
Cooley said as far as she knows there aren”t any campgrounds where the fire started.
“It”s pretty remote,” she said.
The fire mostly took out heavy brush and a few small trees, she said.
CALFIRE hasn”t received reports of injuries or damaged structures.
Crews are still investigating the cause of the fire.
Burn restrictions have been in place since July 1 in both Lake and Mendocino counties.
Crews who responded include CALFIRE, the Bureau of Land Management, Ukiah Valley, Potter Valley, Redwood Valley and Hopland fire departments. At the height of suppression, 550 personnel were working to combat the fire.
Anyone with any information regarding the cause of the fire can call CALFIRE at 459-7414.
