CLEARLAKE — An 80-year-old Middletown woman was transported to St. Helena Hospital Clearlake and treated for minor injuries following a head-on collision on Highway 53 Wednesday afternoon.

According to Clearlake Police Officer Todd Miller, the woman was driving a Toyota RAV 4 northbound on Highway 53 at approximately 50 mph while a 78-year-old Clearlake man was traveling southbound in a Crown Victoria. He said the man was in the process of turning left onto 18th Avenue when the vehicles collided nearly head-on.

Miller said that a witness reported that the woman in the RAV 4 ran a red light.

The male driver of the Crown Victoria and his female passenger refused medical treatment and both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Lake County Fire Protection District provided medical response while Clearlake Police and Volunteers in Policing (VIPs) provided traffic control.
