MIDDLETOWN — Major injuries were sustained Tuesday following a head-on vehicle collision in the Middletown area. Two victims of the crash were flown via air ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center for medical treatment.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday Brittany Franklin 18, of Clearlake, was traveling northbound on Highway 29 north of Butts Canyon Road. For unknown reasons, Franklin allowed her 2008 Chevrolet to drift to the right after which it began to leave the roadway.
The CHP stated Franklin turned her car back to the left and entered the southbound lane of traffic directly in front of a Nissan pickup that was being driven southbound on Highway 29 by Suzanne Wallahan, 43, of Middletown.
“The Chevrolet and the Nissan collided head-on and the Nissan truck went down a dirt embankment to the west of the roadway,” CHP Officer Steve Tanguay said. “The Chevrolet came to rest blocking both lanes of traffic.”
Tanguay said the roadway was blocked and then re-opened to one-way traffic. He said one-way traffic was in effect for more than an hour.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not considered to be factors in the collision, which remains under the investigation of Officer B. Engle.
