This letter is in response to a letter to the editor in which, Walt Fraser proposes a one-year probationary period for our next elected sheriff.
He”s an idea man. And it”s a nice idea. However, I don”t see the point in going through the trouble of setting that rule up.
In a couple of years or four years or however long it is, if there is a challenger there will be another election, just as Obama was most recently elected. That”s what a democracy is all about. That is why we live in a democracy, for all those in fantasyland who don”t believe that is what our country is. Furthermore, just as Obama is being judged after one and a half years of leadership, you are proposing the new sheriff be judged in an even less amount of time. I would like to at least give the new sheriff two years to see if he can make good on those promises you are worried about. Earth wasn”t built in a day and neither was Rome for that matter.
