HEALDSBURG — Clear Lake and Healdsburg split a pair of non-league junior varsity girls” soccer games on Saturday in Healdsburg. The visiting Cardinals won the opener 2-1 before falling 2-0 to the Greyhounds in game two.

Kristy Hayes and Jessica Sanders, two returning players from last year”s JV squad, led the way in game one with a goal and an assist apiece.

In game two, Hayes took a hard spill in the first half and broke her right arm, an injury that will sideline her four to six weeks. With no substitutes available, the Cardinals were a player down much of the game.

“We were even two players down at one point,” Clear Lake coach Alice Holmes said.

“We played exceptionally well for our first games given we didn”t have any substitutes and we have a lot of new players,” Holmes added.

The Cardinals return to action Friday and Saturday at the Abalone Cup in Fort Bragg, where they will play three games.
