HEALDSBURG — Clear Lake High School”s varsity girls” soccer squad dropped a 2-1 decision to McKinleyville and a 2-0 decision to host Healdsburg during a non-league tripleheader on Saturday at Recreation Park in Healdsburg.

Telia Paskaly scored Clear Lake”s goal against McKinleyville to knot the score at 1-1 early in the second half. Savannah DeKeyser had the assist. The Cardinals had an opportunity to take the lead a few minutes later but couldn”t convert a penalty kick.

McKinleyville scored on a long shot with a minute remaining to pull out the victory.

“We gave up a goal in the first 1:30 and pretty well controlled the game after that,” Clear Lake head coach Paul Larrea said.

The Cardinals found themselves a bit understrength for their game later in the day against Healdsburg, including no Chelo Lundquist-Krag at stopper (she left the McKinleyville game in the first half with a foot injury). Clear Lake kept the game scoreless until the second half when the Greyhounds broke through for their two goals.

Standouts for the Cardinals were forward Paskaly, keeper Darian Ottolini, sweeper Nadine Bradley and midfielder/forward Briana Butcher. It was the varsity debut for both Ottolini, a junior, and Bradley, a sophomore.

“Ottolini did a good job and Telia was very good,” Larrea said.

Clear Lake returns to action Friday and Saturday in the Abalone Cup in Fort Bragg. The Cardinals (0-2) play St. Bernard on Friday at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, they get a rematch with McKinleyville at 8:30 a.m. before playing Fort Bragg at 11:30 a.m.
