LAKEPORT — The Lake County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a Lake County Sheriff”s Office request Tuesday to submit an anti-drug abuse grant application for $149,388 to combat drug manufacturing and sales.

The grant would be shared with the Probation Department and the District Attorney”s Office, including Victim Witness. Board members approved the application without discussion or questions to Sheriff Rod Mitchell, who was not present.

The board discussed and voted on a number of issues Tuesday during its meeting in the County Courthouse in Lakeport.

Board members unanimously voted to pursue algae treatment in the Soda Bay area and consider other affected areas.

The board agreed not to buy a 8,000-square-foot house on 44 acres of land on Highway 53 in Clearlake for permanent housing for metal health patients. Supervisors said it would be more cost-effective to buy a number of houses next to each other rather than a mansion for almost $1 million.

Supervisors voted 5-0 to enter an agreement with the Rural Communities Housing Development Corp. and Pacific West Communities for the construction of a 50-unit affordable housing project at 6853 Collier Ave. in Nice. Board members also offered a resolution allowing the submission of an application to the HOME Program for $5.1 million for the project.

The board offered a resolution to apply for grant funding to cover the cost to update the zoning ordinance.

Board members voted 5-0 to approve a letter to be sent to the Director of the State EMS Authority about a state proposal to restructure the EMS regions. Supervisor Rob Brown brought the issue to the board and said counties should decide on any changes rather than having the state decide for them.

The board agreed to accept a $500 donation from the No Name Car Club to support the Animal Shelter.

Chairman Anthony Farrington presented a proclamation designating September as National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month in Lake County.

Board members voted to construct a public road connecting Wildcat Road and Highway 175, to remove a structurally deficient bridge and to begin negotiations with Rainbow Ranch property to improve access.

“The fire department couldn”t cross the bridge due to the current weight limit,” Brent Siemer, Public Works director, said. “The delay may have been a factor in the loss of a residential structure in the area.”

The board approved an agreement with Reinard Brandley for on-demand Lampson airport engineering consulting services, including a pavement maintenance management plan and an airport layout plan narrative report update not to exceed $150,000.

Board members adopted a resolution making revisions to the county travel policy, including that overnight stay should not cost more than $125 a night, down from $175, and that the county would not pay for overnight stay before and after a conference less than three hours away.
