Class times are 5 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. for beginners and 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for intermediate and advanced students on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Judo is an Olympic sport that utilizes throwing, locking and pinning techniques in contests similar to wrestling. The skills and discipline that are acquired through sustained practice improves a young person”s character in a variety of ways. Drills for conditioning, coordination and technique form a major part of the program.

The coaches for Middletown Judo are Steven Lehman, Simone Hingston, Lou Ocken and David Cavagna, all of whom have achieved second-degree black belt rank. Also associated with the judo program are professors Fletcher Thornton and Jack Lair, both having attained seventh-degree rank.

Any local senseis (judo teachers) who would like information about participating in the Middletown Judo program are welcome to call Lehman at 994-5233 or send an e-mail to allegropiano2000@yahoo.com. We would like to have the participation of more female black belts to bring balance to the coaching staff.
