CLEARLAKE — Clearlake Police are searching for a man who allegedly threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend Wednesday night. The man was allegedly armed when the threats were allegedly made. Police continue to search for Ivan Vargas, 23, of Clearlake. He is described as a Hispanic male adult, 5 feet 5 inches tall weighing 220 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
According to Clearlake Police Chief Allan McClain, response was requested on the 15000 block of 42nd Avenue at approximately 11:30 p.m. Wednesday for a domestic violence situation. An ex-boyfriend, later identified as Vargas, threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend. He was allegedly armed with a loaded gun at the time.
McClain said the ex-girlfriend left the house with family but several children were left in the house with Vargas. “The victim called us believing the suspect was still in the house with the kids,” McClain said. “When we arrived no one would respond to us and the Sheriff”s Office SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team were called out.”
McClain said when the special teams gained entry into the house, Vargas was not found. The teams did recover the firearm and found six children unharmed. Vargas is wanted for making terrorists threats. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Clearlake Police Department at 994-8251.
