HIDDEN VALLEY RANCHOS — Stephen B. Sloane, longtime resident of Lake County, has his first novel, “Cohen”s Law” (CreateSpace, 2010) now released for sale.

Sloane asks, “What if there were road maps revealing the paths to joy and all we had to do was choose the one that could work for us? How would we choose?” In this new work of fiction, Cohen”s Law, Sloane”s protagonist decides that the answer to this question is “It depends.” Now all Cohen has to do is to determine on what his choices should depend.

Cohen stumbles through the jungle of life while hunting for that most elusive prize of all ? happiness. On the way he rejects the expectations of family, beliefs of religion, method of science, lessons of education, comforts of wealth, illumination of literature and wisdom of philosophy. Trying to make sense of a nonsensical world, he staggers from trial to error and back to trial. How can Cohen achieve the goal that has eluded so many?

Sloane, locally known for his work with horses and people with disabilities, is also a professor of political science and public administration at Saint Mary”s College of California. His nonfiction publications include “Organizations in the Movies: The Legend of the Dysfunctional System” and “Gold Stripe on a Jackass: The Quest for Moral Efficiency.”
