In the 60s, our nation was shown the shame of bigotry, hate and violence that was practiced in one part of our country. Most knew it was going on, but, because of TV and newspapers, we had to face the shameful reality of it. The majority of the citizens of America, demanded the practice to stop, along with enough law makers to lessen its terrible practice in that part of the country.
It was also known, that the rest of the nation was not innocent to these same practices, only it was more in the closet and not done with the comfort that it was done there. Today the closet door has been opened as the fright wing of one party has tried to use this fact as part of its fear campaign to get members elected. That door can not be closed now. Will citizens demand that the rest of the Nation stand up to those same practices, that back in the 60s we found so foul? For those of us, old enough to remember those times, when we puffed our chests out with pride, as we as a people struck heavy blows to the un-American practices we were exposed to, now find the same level of anger that it took to strike the same heavy blows to today”s exposure of bigotry and hate that is now in our media headlines. Will today”s citizens demand that same justice and treatment for all their fellow citizens as they did back then? Enough of this hatefulness that a few have been slinging around for a year now, as hard as times are for so many, it might be just the right shot in the arm, and show the world just what being a real American is all about.
