I would like to thank Rob Brown and the BOS for continuing to work toward a solution to our algae problem.
The company they are working with, Microbetech, has been successful with similar programs on Clear Lake and other areas.
However, as a newspaper, you need to be more conscious of what you print and quotes from people you interview.
You quoted Rob Brown as saying “the algae are affecting the quality of water so much that Soda Bay resorts are calling people with reservations and telling them not to come.”
I know of only one resort that did this. Yes, we have had cancellations because of the condition of the lake, but our resort marina is weed and algae free because of us working hard everyday to combat the problem.
We choose not to wait for a lake solution and take care of the problem on our own.
By publishing Rob Brown”s quote without verifying the facts, it resulted in us receiving three calls from future guests wanting to cancel their bookings.
One was for eight rooms for the upcoming rodeo. We were able to assure the guest that the water conditions were not as bad as reported and saved the bookings.
We already have enough negative publicity from the Santa Rosa press and other Bay Area media, we do not need our local paper contributing to it. Please be more careful in future articles.
