CLEARLAKE — A Clearlake man remains at-large following a vehicle-and-foot pursuit by Clearlake Police Friday afternoon. A case alleging felony evasion against Nigel Powers, 37, will be forwarded to the Lake County District Attorney, Clearlake Police Sgt. Tim Celli said.

According to Celli, at about 12:45 p.m. an off-duty officer recognized Nigel as fugitive with a felony warrant. Celli said he was dispatched to the scene where he made visual contact with the Maroon Ford Van Nigel was driving and initiated a traffic stop.

Celli said the van stopped and two passengers got out of the vehicle. They did not run, he said. As Celli approached the van, Nigel allegedly drove away from the officer and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

“He took me on about a mile pursuit in the area of Burns Valley near the library,” Celli said. “He was driving recklessly and ended up in field where he crashed the vehicle.”

Celli said Nigel then ran from the vehicle and officers continued to pursue him on foot. “Residents of the area reported seeing the suspect run through their yards,” Celli said. “We checked the area extensively using our K9 unit but there was too much foot traffic in the area to locate the suspect.”

Celli said the case will be forwarded to the DA for consideration of felony evasion charges.
