Kids 4 Broadway holds auditions Thursday

Bluegrass performers to relax at 2 Goombas
LOWER LAKE — The Old Time Bluegrass Festival organizers and friends are warming up for the fifth annual Old Time Bluegrass Festival by getting together from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at 2 Goombas Deli in Lower Lake for a little singing, fast picking and fun.
Don Coffin, who does all of the booking for the Old Time Bluegrass Festival, has invited a few folks to come and play. Attendees can expect to see David Ryan, Dan Harris, Eleanor Cook and Andi Skelton, Sarah Tachevah, Jill Shawl and Anna McAtee as well as a few surprise guests who are in town for the festival. Second Sunday Cinema screens two films
CLEARLAKE — Second Sunday Cinema offers a double feature at 6 p.m. Sunday: “The Age of Stupid” and “The Man Who Planted Trees (and Grew Happiness).”
“The Age of Stupid” is a just-released to DVD film that is a hybrid of documentary and drama. Pete Postlethwaite plays one of the few human survivors in 2055, after climate catastrophe has wiped out much of life on earth. He uses advanced technology to scour videos and news items from 2010 and earlier to try to understand why in the world, with the obvious evidence all around them, didn”t humankind do what it had to, to prevent collapse? Running time is 90 minutes.
Second Sunday Cinema will follow “The Age of Stupid” with “The Man Who Planted Trees (and Grew Happiness),” a 30-minute animated film. An old man plants 100 perfect acorns a day ? and changes a world. The film won an Oscar in 1987.

Julie Nation promotes seminar and audition
LAKEPORT — Julie Nation Academy of Santa Rosa is bringing Los Angeles agent Carol Lynn Sher to Lake County to host a seminar and auditions, Sept. 25 at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre in Lakeport.
The seminar will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Sher will give participants information about how they can “land” an agent.
Sher”s seminar will be followed by auditions for students who are prepared with a 30-second TV commercial or monologue audition piece. The auditions take place from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. All audition performers will receive Sher”s personal feedback from Julie Nation staff. Participants are asked to bring a positive attitude, smile and a home snapshot.
Sher, who was voted Agent of the Year by the Talent Manager Association, is the agent for Miley Cyrus and has talent that can be seen on Hannah Montana, High School Musical, Desperate Housewives, Mad Men and more.
As a public educational service for Lake County, Julie Nation Academy is providing two scholarships per school for Sher”s seminar participants and their parent(s). The general public and all interested students are also invited; there is a fee of $35 per seminar participant, $25 for Julie Nation students and graduates and $15 for parents. Art in Public Places hosts exhibit in Clearlake
CLEARLAKE — Art in Public Places in Clearlake is currently hosting its summer exhibits in both City Hall and Bank of the West.
Featured at Bank of the West are the digital photographs of Lake County by Stacey Sauer. According to Berndette Straub, southlake coordinator for Art in Public Places, Sauer has managed to capture some of the county”s unusual lighting conditions, especially near the southern arms of the lake.
Featured at City Hall in Clearlake are the landscape and still lifes of Rose Hodgkins. Hodgkins works in oils and, according to Straub, she has a keen eye for detail. Her subjects are rendered with tenderness and warmth.

Art in Public Places accepts work on Sept. 16
LAKEPORT — The Lake County Arts Council (LCAC)”s Art in Public Places is a program offering local professional and non-professional artists an opportunity to display their works in high-visibility locations in Lake County.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 16, Lake County Arts Council staff will receive work in the main lobby of the Lake County Courthouse. Oct. 1 First Friday Fling invites creativity
LAKEPORT — Main Street Gallery and the Lake County Arts Council invite those who at one time or another have thought they would like to try their hand in creating a painting and those more experienced artists who would like to create something in collage or an abstract canvas to bring their creativity to the Oct. 1 First Friday Fling.
Participants will have an opportunity to help create two 4-foot by 4-foot canvases. One will be a quilt design collage where participants can complete their own 8-inch by 8-inch design square. The other will be an abstract canvas to which participants can add their own creative touches to complete the canvas.
Canvases and materials will be available for participants to add their creative expressions during regular gallery business hours beginning Oct. 1 until Oct. 30.
The completed canvases will be exhibited until the Nov. 5 First Friday Fling, at which time they will be put up for auction. For more information, call the Main Street Gallery at 263-6658 and check back at the gallery often to see the what has been added to the canvases.
