LAKEPORT — Defensible space along with a quick response from firefighters likely saved a number of homes threatened by a vegetation fire Sunday afternoon off Creekside Drive in Lakeport.
“The residents in the area did a good job of creating defensible space, cutting back trees and grass,” Chief Ken Wells of the Lakeport Fire Protection District said.
The blaze burned about four acres after it started about 3:20 p.m. Sunday near Creekside Drive off Sandy Lane in Lakeport, CALFIRE communications operator Jeannine Davila said. CALFIRE is still investigating the cause of the fire, Davila said.
No one was injured in the fire.
Units responding included three engines from Lakeport, one Kelseyville engine, one U.S. Forest Service engine, four CALFIRE engines, one CALFIRE bulldozer, one hot shot crew, one hand crew from CALFIRE, two helicopters and two air tankers.
