UKIAH — The Airport Auto Brokers Late Models compete in their final points race of the season Saturday night at the Ukiah Speedway.
In addition, the popular Bomber Bash will see 50-lap feature races in the street stocks, bomber and bonus bomber divisions. The Pro-4 modifieds also will be on the racing card. And to top off the evening, slider races and boat races will add an element of fun and destruction to the evening”s racing card.
In the Late Models class, the top four drivers all have a chance to clinch the championship.
— Fourth-place runner Corey James has to earn maximum points and have Mike Lovell finish sixth and Mike Doss finish 19th in the feature.
— Kevin Ostern needs to collect maximum points and have Lovell finish fourth and Doss 15th in the feature.
— Mike Lovell has the best chance to take over the top spot. He needs to collect maximum points and have Doss finish eight in the feature.
— Doss already occupies the top spot and only needs to finish fourth or better in the feature to wrap up the points title.
The slider races are rapidly gaining popularity. Twenty-seven cars competed at last month”s race and more are expected for Saturday”s show. Sliders are powered from the front wheels as the rear wheels do not turn, making it next to impossible to keep the cars going in a straight line.
The boat races feature cars dragging boats around a wet track. The object is to take out the other guy”s boat.
