CLEARLAKE — Restrictions placed on Silk”s Bar & Grill at the request of Clearlake Police Chief Allan McClain have been modified. An order modifying conditions related to the business”s alcohol licensing since its January opening was recently signed by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC).
A petition for modification of conditions was filed with the ABC on July 19 by Lower Lake attorney Ron Green on behalf of Silk”s owner Andre Williams. An order for modification was signed by ABC General Counsel Matthew D. Botting on Sept. 3.
“Now, nearly nine months after opening, owner and musician/singer extraordinaire Andre Williams will finally have a decent shot at developing a thriving business that brings people and money to Clearlake,” Green said.
According to Green, conditions have been modified to allow for operation until 2 a.m. rather than midnight. Security guards are required on Friday and Saturday nights instead of seven days a week and live music and other entertainment is no longer prohibited.
“This is a positive start in the right direction. I think this opens up a lot of opportunities not only for Silk”s but also for the community,” Williams said. “This community has been lacking enjoyable options for entertainment and leisure activity that I think Silk”s can provide. I look forward to bringing some very well known and renowned entertainers to Clearlake.”
Williams said along with the other modifications mentioned, “happy hour” restrictions have been lifted as well. “Now that our kitchen is fully operational and happy hour is allowed, I hope people find Silk”s to be a comfortable place where they can dine and relax after work,” he said.
Williams commended the representation provided by Green, who he said worked diligently to get modifications to the ABC license. He also commended the community, which he said has stood by him since he opened in January. “This community has been very supportive during a very frustrating nine month journey,” he said. “I appreciate all the people who signed our petition and helped us get these restrictions lifted.”
In addition to owning and operating Silk”s, Williams sings regularly all over the country and abroad with three-time Grammy Award winner MC Hammer and his band and dancers. Williams said he anticipates a guest appearance at Silk”s by MC Hammer in the near future.
McClain said that he supports the modifications because the reasons and grounds, which caused him to request the conditions no longer exist. He said that Williams has corrected most or all of the problems associated with the location when the previous owner operated the business.
Silk”s Bar & Grill is now open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily at 14825 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake. For more information regarding entertainment and kitchen hours call 995-SILK.
