CLEARLAKE — Clearlake Mayor Judy Thein presented a proclamation Thursday designating Sept. 12 through 18 as “National Assisted Living Week ?Living Life ? Living Emeritus” Brain Health Lifestyle.” The proclamation was accepted by Kristy Weiss, community relations director of Orchard Park Assisted Living and Memory Care Community of Clearlake.
In accepting the proclamation, Weiss invited all members of the council and the community to a special event celebrating National Assisted Living Week at Orchard Park located on Burns Valley Road next to Redbud Library.
Harvest Wine and Cheese open house will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The event will feature a selection of wines poured by area wineries such as Rosa de Oro, Shannon Ridge, Cleavage Creek and more. Live music will be provided by “Blind Spot,” a local band featuring Tom Nixon, who is the son of an Orchard Park resident.
Miss Lake County and Miss Outstanding Teen are also expected to make appearances.
The proclamation presented on Thursday reads as follows:
“WHEREAS, the number of elderly and disabled Americans is dramatically increasing; and
“WHEREAS, assisted living is a long term care service that fosters choice, dignity, independence and autonomy in our elderly nationwide; and
“WHEREAS, the National Center for Assisted Living proudly created National Assisted Living Week?; and
“WHEREAS, the theme of National Assisted Living Week? – ?Living Life” ? highlights the opportunity to share with our residents a multitude of events and activities that will place an emphasis on promoting brain healthy activities that optimize mental and physical health in order to live life to the fullest.
“THEREFORE LET IT BE PROCLAIMED that the City Council of the City of Clearlake does here proclaim the week of September 12-18, 2010 as National Assisted Living Week? in Clearlake. All citizens are urged to visit friends and loved ones who reside at these facilities and also to learn more about assisted living services and how they benefit our communities.”
