CROCKETT ? The Lower Lake Trojans kicked off its new season with a “barnburner” by beating the John Swett Indians 22-19 Friday night in Crockett. After fumbling on the first posession, longtime Lake County coach Stan Weiper said the Trojans “pounded the veer offense” with 34 rushes for 204 yards. E.J. Jermany led the way with 111 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown. Roy Percost and Jack O”Hara also rushed for touchdowns. Jermany connected with Devante Scott, Camari Onwuasoeze, and Alfonso Daniels on pass plays.

Defensive coordinator Joe Del Prete coached the Trojan defenders to read Swett”s guards to counter their toss offense. Brandon Sparks had 11 tackles and Antonio Hines added nine.

After a fourth quarter interception, Swett threatened to score, but turned the ball over on downs. Jermany scampered around left end for 50 yards to ice the game. The Trojans kneeled on the final plays to run out the clock. Lower Lake also had an 80 yard touchdown called back for a blocking infraction.

Weiper hopes that this encouraging win will carry over as the Trojans travel next Saturday to face St. Vincent”s in Petaluma.
