The Sept. 7 letter to the editor by Ray Richards hit the nail on the head. One of the biggest problems in the City of Clearlake is the fact that we do not hire local people for important positions. On top of that our police chief, administrator, accountant, public works director and engineer do not even live in our city. They are paid very well and have no contacts with this city. Why should they care?
There are many rewards for hiring local people; a feeling of pride would come about in cleaning up the city; we would save a great amount of money by not having to pay subsistence; the money paid to our local people would remain here to be spent here and thus be recirculated within our city and finally, they would be listening to us. And please don”t try to tell us again that there are no qualified people here.
