LAKE COUNTY ? The Lake County Cross Country Meet took place Wednesday at Upper Lake High School with four of the five Lake County schools represented. Kelseyville High School does not have a cross country team this year.
The traditional meet initiates the cross country season, but it is not an official league meet.
Upper Lake”s Varsity boys team swept the field taking seven of the top eight slots, broken only by Ian Smith of Lower Lake who came in seventh. Clear Lake High School took five of the next seven spots and took second in the meet.
Charlie Coburn ran away from the field beating second place Chris Cisneros by more than a minute. For second place, Clear Lake freshman Brice Beare moved up from the JV”s to fill in for Clear Lake”s ill fifth runner and beat all of his fellow varsity runners.
Clear Lake High School was the top team for the varsity girls race. Clear Lake won the meet taking four of the top six spots. Chloe Rojas won the race by more than a minute. Rojas and Tanya Bennett ran together for the first third of the race and Rojas gradually pulled away.
Clear Lake foreign exchange student Andreina Guedez from Venezuela is new to running. Guedez became the second-best runner and placed fourth in Lake County.
Upper Lake showed its domination of boys running in Lake County by taking six of the top seven spots in the junior varsity, led by Gage Dehear. Clear Lake coach, Peter Stanley was extremely pleased with Brandon Disney”s race, breaking up the top six Upper Lake runners with a sixth place finish.
