UPDATED:

I”m responding to a letter published in the Record-Bee during the week of Sept. 8.

A recent writer to the editor wrote that President Obama “is not one of us.” I am highly offended by this type of language and frankly, I”m not sure why it was allowed in the Record-Bee. What does this statement mean? It sounds racist and exclusionary. This needs to be explained and supported.

They also said that our current president fails to represent the majority. I would like to know, which one that is. It sounds as if the letter writer, just like many people who watch current FOX and other media news shows, believe all they are told and don”t think critically for themselves.

I see roads being repaired, jobs being created, rising confidence in the economy and unemployment falling in some cities during some months. These developments that took place while Obama was in office slightly over a year”s time do not show “fiscal irresponsibility” as the writer wrote.

Regarding Obama”s supposed “hollow promises,” how about giving him a chance? He hasn”t been in office that long. What about the rhetoric we hear from bankers, Goldman Sachs, Fannie May, Countrywide, GM, AIG? These companies profited at the taxpayer”s expense. Currently, GM is using TARP funds to repay the borrowed funds. Both came from taxpayers. I am sure the president would like to see this situation change as much as anyone.

Any president”s record can be examined and generate all sorts of statistics. For example, under Reagan, our national debt tripled. Yes, our debt is currently high. But much of Bush”s expenditures were ones he chose; they were elective. He took office with a relatively thriving economy and it nearly had collapsed by the time he left. That is what Obama stepped into.

I feel the attacks on President Obama have been unfair and baseless. If citizens want to help, they should volunteer at their schools, help their neighbors and perhaps start their own environmental cleanup.

Key indicators in the economy say the greatest strength we have going for us as a country right now are made up of investing in our ideologies and our future.
